Look at all the dogs focused on Don’s cheezie with puddles of drool falling from their jowls.
I love throwing goodies for Spirit to catch. She is such a piggy that she overreacts and misses all the time. Brodie on the other hand rarely misses no matter how bad the throw is. This is a great slow motion video of one of Spirit’s epic fails.
Tilly and I went to Fort Saskatchewan High School this afternoon. The kids are participating in a 24hr bike-a-thon to raise money for the Stollery Children’s Hospital. They took breaks to relax and chill out with the dogs.

Before
This afternoon Tilly and I did a Pet Therapy session with the City of Edmonton 311 operators. She was her normal friendly, cheerful self and I think everyone enjoyed loving her up. I don’t know what it is about Therapy work but she is always exhausted after. She was a sleep before the car exited the parkade and she snored the whole way home.

This is Christmas morning in our house. Wally has always been the one to deliver the cards but now Brodie wants to help too. Gosh I love my fur kids. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.
Tilly, aka “the boss”, is 8 years old today. She brings such joy to our family and rules the 4 legged members with a iron paw.

McMullin snuggling in the kennel
My beautiful, gentle old man Wally. He is almost 16 years old now. Over those years he has shared our home with more foster puppies and four-legged family members than I can count. Without exception, each one has gone to him to cuddle and seek comfort. He has always obliged. For an intact male he is truly amazing!!!!
Just a few more pictures to tug at your heart strings:

Last weekend we went to Patty’s acreage to have some fun and give Spirit a chance to meet some new dogs and people and give her the first real opportunity for an off leash run. She is a bit of a timid little girl so I wasn’t quite sure how she was going to react. I was prepared just in case she was overwhelmed and decided to take off in the opposite direction. I have to give credit to the power of a group of wonderful dogs. She was totally relaxed and immediately joined in with the group. She made appropriate play signals and I never saw any fear or anxiousness in her body language. It was truly a beautiful thing. After our walk we all headed inside to enjoy a meal together. It is wonderful to be able to have a house full of dogs and never having to worry about any dog aggression issues.
Tilly looking rested and relaxed because everyone took turns carrying the princess….she sure knows how to work a crowd.
I can giggle now when I look at these pictures but at the time I felt so sorry for my little girl. She woke us up in the middle of the night crying in pain. We rushed to the emergency vet and we discovered that she had a very swollen and infected anal gland. They had to drug her and open it up to drain it. When we got home she had trouble standing and holding her head up with the cone of shame on. I made a little nest for her in front of the fireplace. When she was a little more conscious I gave her a little yogurt (that accounts for all the extra white around her chin) to help offset the negative effects of the antibiotics they put her on.

When I have been sitting at my sewing machine for too long, Tilly likes to poke her head up between my legs and demand that I stop piecing and give her some loving.

My little helper has to be on my lap no matter what I am doing. She likes to peak around the monitor just to make sure I see her and to make sure I am not eating anything that she thinks she should have.

The ‘kids’ love licking the empty yogurt containers. I used to buy 500ml containers so they got to ‘clean’ one every 3 days. When I switched to the 1 litre containers they had to wait a whole week. They still join me in the kitchen every morning hoping that today is the day that the container is ready for their pre-wash cycle.

As soon as I sit down in the la-z-boy to start hand sewing on my binding…..my cute little hairy daughter has to park herself right in the middle of the quilt.

From the Dog House to your house……we wish you a very Merry Christmas. We hope you are surrounded by family, warmth and joy.
My two favourite Dad’s celebrated breakfast in bed this morning. Don got his McDonald’s Big Breakfast and Wally got his beloved Timmie bits.
All 3 dogs very generously offered to help their Dad eat his big breakfast.

This morning we gave the ‘kids’ each a prime rib bone to enjoy on Easter Sunday…..better than chocolate eggs any day!!!
It is time to pick the unfinished quilts (UFOs) that I am going to commit to completing in the first quarter of this year’s quilt finish-a-long (FAL). This is my first FAL so I want to pick UFOs that have been hanging around for a while and that I am sure, ok pretty sure, that I will actually be able to complete as promised.
My first choice is the 2011 Block of the Month (BOM) with Quilt Essential. I managed to get all my blocks done in 2011 and I even started working on assembling the quilt top in early 2012 but I never finished it. This Sunday is the annual BOM quilt show and we are supposed to have our 2011 quilts done and hanging in the show. I’m pretty close. I just have to finish sewing on the binding and cut off all the threads.
You can see why it takes so long to hand sew on the binding…..my little, furry quilt helper loves to take a nap in the middle of my project. I don’t have the heart to disturb the princess so that I can move on to a new section.
My second choice is my Blue Hydrangea quilt. This is the first quilt top I ever made. It hung around my sewing room for a year before I found a long armer to quilt it for me. Unfortunately he forgot to use the beautiful wool batting that I provided (he used a plain cotton blend) and he didn’t quilt the individual flower blocks they way we had discussed. It hung around for another year waiting for me to put the binding on. I procrastinated because I wanted to use a striped fabric on the bias but I had never made biased binding before. I’ve almost got all the binding on now but I still want to pick out all the stitching on the floral blocks and replace it with some free motion quilting that will show off the blocks. I’m a newbie free motion quilter (FMQ) so hopefully I don’t wreck the quilt.
My final FAL for this quarter will be my Blue Odyssey quilt. I saw a beautiful wall hanging in an old edition of Quilt Mania. I decided to try and duplicate the design and change it from a small wall quilt into a king size quilt. I went a little overboard buying fabric. When all is said and done I bet I will get at least one and quite likely 2 quilts out of the leftover fabric. I need to finish the FMQ and then put the binding on….my least favourite part of making a quilt.
Update: 2013JAN13
I’m feeling ambitious today so I am going to add one more project to the FAL. It is a fleece baby/twin quilt. Once again it is one of my many UFO’s waiting for the binding to be hand sewn on to the back of the quilt. I had an emergency appendectomy a few days ago so I am not able to sit at my machine and sew/quilt for a couple of weeks. I have no excuse not to stretch out in the lazyboy and do the hand sewing.
