Tower 2021

My seedlings are 7 days old today. I should probably wait until they have their first set of true leaves but to heck with it, I put them in the tower this evening. Looking forward to my first delicious salad.

Beautiful Greens

Rainbow Chard

Every time I walk into the kitchen my eyes are blessed with the beautiful colours of my rainbow chard. I love it when I accidentally brush up against the mint or basil and breathe in that wonderful aroma. All this gorgeous greenery is good for my soul when it is cold and dreary outside.

What a Difference a Week Makes

Last Thursday (Sep 10th) I moved my seedlings to my Tower Garden. It is now 7 days later and there has been some growing going on.

Ready for the Tower

Just two weeks after seeding, my cute little seedlings have roots poking through the grow cubes so that means they are ready to move into the tower.

I just love the vibrant colours of the rainbow chard stems and how the tiny Merlot lettuce leaves are already turning red.

All the seedlings are now in the tower and hopefully they will produce delicious greens throughout the fall and winter

Tower Harvest

Just getting ready to take the tower apart and clean it before replanting it with new seedlings for the fall. We have a jungle of mammoth basil leaves just itching to be made into pesto.

After procrastinating for weeks I finally got the food processor out and made a batch. After harvesting 9 cups of leaves Iโ€™ve got enough basil left for several more batches ๐Ÿ˜ซ

Iโ€™ve started my seedlings. Look at how cute and colourful the rainbow chard is.

Basil from my Tower

Basil the size of my hand. Iโ€™m just amazed at what wonderful crops my tower garden has produced in such a short time. It made for some delicious bruschetta for dinner tonight

Tower Garden Update

I was so shocked today to discover my first tumbler tomato. It has only been 7.5 weeks from seeding. So far I am really pleased with my tower. I guess the real proof will come when I can taste it.

If nothing else, it is amazing for producing all kinds of greens and herbs. We have an abundance of delicious goodies to choose from each day.

I just noticed that Iโ€™ve also got a couple of tiny yellow beans. I guess my attempts at acting like a pollinating ๐Ÿ have been successful.

Week 1 in the Tower

My homegrown seedlings have been in the tower for one week now.  I can definitely see that they have grown,  They are supposed to start out slowly and then take off so I guess I have to wait for the exponential growth.  I have lost a tomato and spinach seedling.  I have no idea why they died.  They both just started wilting and shrived up.  Hopefully I won’t lose anymore.

My Tower is Planted

IMG_0059This weekend I added all my home grown seedlings into my Tower Garden. ย I can’t wait to see how well things grow, ย I also seeded in dirt some of the same varieties so that I can compare the taste of my Tower grown food with plants grown outside in the garden.

I also experimented with seeding Boston butter lettuce directly into the tower rather than starting them first and adding them to the tower once they have well established roots. ย I want to compare the germination success to see which method I will use going forward.

Tower Garden

My new toy arrived last Friday. It is an aeroponic tower garden that can be used both indoors or outside. My gym has had a couple of them hanging around for a while and I instantly fell in love. I seeded a bunch of greens, chives, tomatoes and peppers Saturday morning. The first sprouts appeared in less than 48 hours. I canโ€™t wait until they are big enough to be moved to the tower.
