Thanks to the FAL and ALYoF I managed to complete 10 quilts in 2015. Three for charities, five as gifts and two more in my Leftovers series.

I’ve been working on Leftovers VI since the summer. I finally finished all the blocks in September so now I just have to come up with a design using my 25 blocks. I need a boot in the fanny to get it finished by year end so it is my December goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes.

Our guild is collecting baby quilts for Our Lady of Grace. The quilts will go to pregnant or parenting teens. I had some left over fabric from Leah’s Quilt so I decided to make a baby girl quilt. I love the colours…they look so girly and feminine. I went a little overboard with the quilting, what else is new, but hopefully whoever gets it will like it. This quilt is also my second FAL finish for the 4th quarter and my November ALYoF goal.
When it was finished I decided that I needed to make one for a baby boy too. I raided my stash and came up with this version:
They look so cute together:

At our October guild meeting I found out that we are making baby quilts for Our Lady of Grace. I have started piecing HSTs together. I would like to finish my donation quilt as my November goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes.
Now that I have given this quilt as a gift I can post pictures of it. It is my Oct ALYoF Goal and my first finish for the final quarter of the 2015 Finish-a-Long.
This summer Erin married her sweetheart Paul. Paul’s sister Sue just had a baby girl. She is the first grandchild in their family. In honour of the birth of Leah and the joining of our families I made her this baby quilt.
I used a stylized feather in the lighter triangles to push them into the background and have the brighter triangles pop forward.
I used trapunto to make the hearts pop and then did a dense quilting in the background to enhance their 3d effect even more.
I like the back of this quilt. I used some left over HST blocks and a few 5 inch squares. You can really see the free motion quilting on the back.

It is that time again. My October goal for the “A Lovely Year of Finishes” hosted by Sew Bitter Sweet Designs is a work-in-progress that I need to finish by the end of this month. I’ve cut lots of 5 inch squares from yardage in my stash that I am making into half square triangles. I can’t show too many pictures of it because it is a surprise.

Leftovers 5 is finally finished. It was on my 3rd quarter FAL list and my September ALYoF goal. I can now cross a log cabin quilt off of my bucket list. I really enjoyed quilting this one. Played with lots of my rulers and went a little wild. It was a little windy when I was trying to take pictures so the quilt so it looks a little wonky. It is time to set my goal for this month. I am going to try and finish my Leftovers V quilt. Yes….I am embarrassed to admit that I have been able to make 5 twin size quilts out of the leftover fabric from my Blue Odyssey quilt. There is even a Leftovers VI in the piecing stage.
Leftovers V is on the longarm right now but it has so much detailed/dense quilting that it is going to take a while to finish.

Well my little black dress quilt didn’t get finished in May so it is now my June goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes. It needs to be quilted and bound.

This is my May goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes. It’s a lap quilt I am making out of Little Black Dress 2. I need to finish the piecing, quilt and bind.

With only hours to spare I just put the last hand stitches into my binding to officially finish my April goal and my first FAL for the 2nd quarter. Yippee!!! It is a lap quilt that I made as a surprise for someone special.

It’s time to set my April goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes. I started this lap quilt back in February using a Moda layer cake called Tapestry. I’ve got a quite a few of the blocks pieced so I have to finish the rest of the piecing, add in the sashings, etc. My goal is to have this one completely finished by the end of April.

Well it took two FALS (first quarter FAL list) and one ALYoF (March) but Leftovers IV is finally finished. I did a lot of ruler work on it and quite a bit of dense quilting. I was able to cross two items off my bucket list with this one…..a string quilt and a HST quilt.

It is time to set my finish goal for March. I have the perfect UFO. Leftover’s IV has been on my FAL list two or three times already but has continued to be neglected. I took it off my frame twice to work on other quilts. I just have to finish the free motion quilting and bind it.

I can’t believe it but I actually still made my February goal (original post here) and have my second FAL (original post here) for this quarter. Having a new puppy has really limited my quilting time but when the little, furry devil-child is sleeping I am able to steal a few moments of creative time. I did a lot of ruler work on this quilt to enhance the shapes in the design. If you want to read more about my Quilts of Valour charity quilt and see more pictures click here.

It doesn’t matter how many dogs we have had in our lives, I always forget how much work a new puppy is. I’m not sure I will be making my Feb ALYoF goal. By the time I get Spirit settled in my sewing room, it is time to take her out for a potty break. Don and I tag team who is watching her.
I did manage to finish the borders for my Quilts of Valour top. I hope to get them sewn on this week and maybe get the backing finished so that next week I can start on the FMQ before I head back to work on the 23rd.
Thank goodness the Feb BOM is a very quick and easy one so I managed to get it completed. That’s two months in a row….only 10 more to go.

Here’s a couple of pictures of my sewing room helpers. I love that Wally is holding a pink stuffy between his paws and Spirit is snuggled up next to him. The second pictures shows why I can’t get much sewing done. Spirit is all wrapped up around the legs of my chair so I can’t move it to get up and shift between my sewing machine and iron. I love that cute, fat belly (you can check out Spirit’s blog here).

It is time to set my February goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes. I hope to finish piecing, quilt and bind my Quilts of Valour Quilt. I started it in January and have 75% of it pieced.

Yeah…..I made my January goal for #ALYOF. Back on January 5th I blogged about finishing my baby boy quilt made with Zen Chic Fabric. My cousin’s son has a baby due in April (does that make him/her my 3rd cousin or cousin twice removed??) and I have a feeling it will be a boy This is the first quilt I’ve made with the “L” shape block. I didn’t realize how versatile it was and how many different designs I could make with it. I just played with these 3 ideas on my design wall before settling on the last one.
I’m happy with the way it turned out. First goal for 2015 ALYoF completed…..yeah me!!! Hopefully this will be the start of a 12 month streak. This quilt is also my first FAL quilt for the first quarter. I originally blogged about it here.

This year I’ve decided to participate in ‘A Lovely Year of Finishes’ (#ALYoF) hosted by Bitter Sweet Designs. At the beginning of each month you have to blog about one WIP that you want to finish that month. Hopefully by the end of the month you will have attained your goal.
My goal for January is to finish this baby quilt made with Zen Chic Barcelona.
