I enjoyed the 2011 Block of the month program at Quiltessential Co so I decided to do it again in 2012. Just to add a little more of a challenge I decided to do it in two different colour ways. This one is called “The Blues” (the second one was Opera) . There are 6 beautiful batiks in the collection:
We made 12 blocks in the BOM club. My design required 13 so I had to make an additional one :
I wanted the finish quilt to have a modern feel to it so I came up with this rather geometric design:
Unfortunately I didn’t get many pictures of the quilt top as it was being assembled on my design wall.
I decided to just do a simple design in each block to lock down the seams and use all the blue background material to have some fun custom quilting.
Here she is all quilted and bound. It is hard to see the custom quilting in the background but it has pebbles and swirls in a half sunflower shape on each side of the orange squares.
Some more close up pictures of the front and back:
OMG!!!! you never cease to amaze me!!!! where on earth do you find the time??????????????
I absolutely love this quilt. So original and interesting use of batiks. I have about one and a half blue batik jelly rolls which I have been wracking my brains on what to do with them…you have inspired me! Thanks for sharing. From a fellow quilter way over in Melbourne.
