Adrianne from On the Windy side has released her new quilt pattern High Tea so now I can show you the quilts I made to test her pattern. It is a very quick and easy to make pattern that is pre-cut friendly (charms squares, layers cakes and jelly rolls) but also easy to make using yardage. I made a ‘boy’ version using green and gold sashing in support of our Edmonton Eskimos. I used charm squares and a few layer cakes for the 4-patches and yardage for the sashing. I followed her pattern exactly on this one:
For the girl’s version I used yardage rather than pre-cuts. I left every other centre block plain so that I could do some free motion quilting and I changed the sashing around the centre blocks so that the neutral sashing acts as a frame for the bright/busy 4-patch and the coloured sashing forms a frame around the FMQ.
When these quilts are finished, I am going to donate them to the Little Warriors Be Brave Ranch. Each child is given a quilt when they arrive at camp and when they leave they get to take it home with them.
Adrianne’s pattern is officially available for purchase starting today and for 48 hours it will be half off at her Etsy shop and on Craftsy. You can see mine and all the other pattern testers’ quilt tops on Adrianne’s website.

We spent a beautiful fall day at Patty’s farm/acreage. The dogs always have a wonderful time running free in her fields and eating as many cow pies as they can find. Wally does enjoy eating a few of them but his first love is rolling in them. My boy has never met a pile of poop that he didn’t want to roll in. We dressed him in a long sleeved t-shirt to try and keep the poop out of his beautiful golden locks. Unfortunately we had to take it off when it got too loose around his belly and he peed all over it. Then the dogs found the dug out and went in for a quick swim and drink. The other 5 dogs got out fairly clean but our Wally got stuck in mud half way up his body and had to be pulled out by Patty. Talk about a mud bath…..now he has to have a ‘real’ bath…but he was pretty happy with himself. I’m still amazed at how active and agile he is for a old man of 13 years…..14 in April.

It is that time again to make a commitment to the final quarter of the 2014 finish-a-long hosted by Katy at the Littlest Thistle. I have one left over from last quarter that didn’t get finished and I am adding four more to my list for a total of five.
Leftovers III is on my frame and about 3/4 quilted so I just have to finish it off and bind it.
Leftovers IV is going to be a HST string quilt. I’ve got about 80% of the blocks made so I have to finish the last few, find the perfect layout, sew them together, quilt and then bind.
Yesterday I volunteered to be a pattern tester for Adrianne at On the Windy Side. I’ve got roughly 15 days to have a finished queen size quilt top. Although it is a tight timeline….I’m looking forward to the new experience. I am not allowed to share the pattern with you just yet because it is top secret until it is published and for sale at the end of the month. I’m primarily using Zen Chic’s Barcelona fabric along with some Grunge fabric from Basic Grey. When the quilt is completed I am going to donate it to http://littlewarriors.ca/events/quilts-for-the-be-brave-ranch/. Each child is given a quilt when they arrive at camp and when they leave they get to take it home with them.
At the 2nd quarter FAL wrap up party I was lucky enough to win a $25 gift card from Becca at Sew me a Song. I used it to help purchase this 1/2 yard fabric bundle. I think these fabrics, plus a few more from my stash, will make a cute quilt for a little girl. I am using the same pattern as above and it will be donated to the Be Brave Ranch too.
And my final project is a commission. A queen size quilt for my massage therapist. She gave me this pillow sham to use as my inspiration and left the rest up to me. No pressure there. I can’t say much more or show the fabrics that I’m using because she looks at my blog and I want this to be a complete surprise….hopefully a good one?!?!?!
Yikes….this is a big list.

Our girl loves her food and when she thinks it’s supper time she does her best to make sure we know it too.

I can’t believe that this quilt is finally done. I made it back in 2009 or 2010. It hung around my studio for years because I had no idea how I wanted to quilt it and I was afraid to tackle it on my domestic machine. It was on my 2nd and 3rd quarter FAL lists. I even had it on my frame 3 different times before I finally finished all the free motion quilting. I used two layers of batting: a stiff fusible one (so that it will hang flat and firm) and a high loft polyester. It gave amazing depth to the peacocks and the flowers. I put a sleeve on it so that it can be used as both a wall hanging or a lap quilt. I took pictures today in the shade and in full sun. Although the full sun pictures fade out the colours, they definitely show off the dimension created by the quilting and the double batting.
I just love how the quilting shows up on the back of the quilt….such dimension.
And of course there has to be a picture of little Tilly parked in the middle of my quilt as I hand sew the binding on. I love the bad-hair-day-mohawk-head. I looks like she was giving Don the evil eye because she was sick of the flash going off in her face repeatedly.

#Urban Windows is my second FAL finish of the 3rd quarter (link to 3rd quarter FAL wish list). It was a little time consuming to FMQ but I love all the dimension and texture that the quilting added. I custom quilted each “window” with a different design and then I used a funky triple wave in the sashing.

Leftovers III in on my frame and I’ve completed about half of the free motion quilting. Lots of ruler work but I am liking how it is turning out. It won’t be a 3rd quarter FAL finish. I guess it will have to go on my next FAL list.
I’ve got almost all of the HST’s for Leftovers IV completed. I just need to lay them out on my design wall and start sewing them together.

My little helper has to be on my lap no matter what I am doing. She likes to peak around the monitor just to make sure I see her and to make sure I am not eating anything that she thinks she should have.
