3rd Quarter FAL Finish

OneBwon

Well the 3rd quarter is almost over and I finally have my first FAL finish (here is a link back to my FAL wish list).  It is a one-block-wonder that I started back in 2010.  When I initially finished piecing it, it was too small for a queen and I didn’t like the fabric I had for the border so I just added it to my pile of UFOs and forgot about it.  I pulled it out in January and added it to my 1st quarter FAL list  It got carried forward to the 2nd and 3rd quarters before I managed to complete it.

I removed some of the blocks in the upper right hand quadrant of the quilt top and replaced them with the blue background fabric.  I used appliqué and trapunto to show off the two beautiful geishas that were the stars of the OBW fabric.

I really like how the geisha faces made interesting blocks.

OBW1

This is what the original fabric looked like.  It was made up of two geishas, rose and purple irises and a water like background.

    it is spectacular!

  2. How cool is that that you added the beautiful ladies to the middle of the quilt and the borders. Wonderful!! Love the colors in this one.

  3. This is spectacular! What a good idea to provide negative space, and the geishas at a larger scale. It gives the other blocks focus!! So good

  4. Indeed, it is spectacular. I am partial to one block wonders and the likes. And the geishas add to the background giving a focal point.

  5. Wow, i just had to admit that this is spectactulair indeed. So clever! This is beyond a gorgeous quilt. Congrats with this finish.
    Love from Amsterdam

  6. Wow! This is gorgeous and so worth the effort of finishing it. I also love the geishas–they add so much interest to the quilt.

  7. Well worth the wait, I think.

  8. What a gorgeous quilt. I love how you grouped your blocks, especially where you placed the “lighter looking” blocks coming down towards the geishas. And the borders are the perfect complement, the graded purple – looks like weaving in and out .

  9. This is lovely. One block wonder quilts are so unique with their interesting patterns. I started cutting pieces for one a couple of months ago but got distracted by other things, now I have seen your beautiful quilt I will have to go back to it.
