We spent a beautiful fall day at Patty’s farm/acreage. The dogs always have a wonderful time running free in her fields and eating as many cow pies as they can find. Wally does enjoy eating a few of them but his first love is rolling in them. My boy has never met a pile of poop that he didn’t want to roll in. We dressed him in a long sleeved t-shirt to try and keep the poop out of his beautiful golden locks. Unfortunately we had to take it off when it got too loose around his belly and he peed all over it. Then the dogs found the dug out and went in for a quick swim and drink. The other 5 dogs got out fairly clean but our Wally got stuck in mud half way up his body and had to be pulled out by Patty. Talk about a mud bath…..now he has to have a ‘real’ bath…but he was pretty happy with himself. I’m still amazed at how active and agile he is for a old man of 13 years…..14 in April.

Today I am joining the 2014 Pets on Quilts blog hop. Tilly loves to “help” by sitting in the middle of any and every quilt that I try to hand sew the binding on. She is so darn cute and flirty when she does it that I don’t have the heart to kick her off. Here are just a few of the many quilts her hairy, little body has graced.
She even likes to “help” with the piecing:
Wally and Tango thought they should be included in the blog hop too:

The ‘kids’ love licking the empty yogurt containers. I used to buy 500ml containers so they got to ‘clean’ one every 3 days. When I switched to the 1 litre containers they had to wait a whole week. They still join me in the kitchen every morning hoping that today is the day that the container is ready for their pre-wash cycle.

We found this DVD in our mailbox this week. It was a surprise from Lorena and Amanda, the co-owners of Chewed Slippers Dog Photography. This summer we did a photo shoot with them. Wally is almost 13 and I wanted to capture some special pictures with him. They allowed 2 dogs in the sitting so we brought Tango along so that Don could get some pix of him and her together in the Canadian Search Dog uniform. I wish we had known how special the pictures were going to be because we would have paid extra to add Tilly to the session (sorry Tilly….next time we will include you). We didn’t know at the time, but a few weeks after the shoot we found out that Tango has Degenerative Myelopathy and the future prognosis for her is not very bright. It just makes the pictures of her even more special. They took well over 100 pictures. When we went in for our viewing, we were overwhelmed. Several of the pictures brought tears to my eyes. I am so glad we did the session. If you are looking to capture some memories of your family (two and four legged) I highly recommend Chewed Slippers.

From the Dog House to your house……we wish you a very Merry Christmas. We hope you are surrounded by family, warmth and joy.
Last week we took Wally and Tango to Chewed Slippers photography studio to get some pictures taken. We had so much fun. They ended up featuring two of our pictures on their blog. The first one was of Wally lying down in front of his favourite treats….Timbits. The drool was pouring out the sides of his massive jowls and he was desperately waiting for the ‘OK’ command to chow down.

Check out the blog post here… Dog Drooling over Tim Horton Timbits, Doggie Tales, Dogs in Edmonton, What’s New | Chewed Slippers.
The second picture features our beautiful SAR girl Tango with a Canadian Search Dog Association jacket in the background. Isn’t it absolutely stunning.

Today we are celebrating 12 wonderful years with our handsome Golden Boy Wally. Our tradition has been to give him one timbit (his favourite treat) for every year. As he started approaching double digits we cut it back to half timbits because we were concerned about feeding him so many rich treats. If we are lucky enough to celebrate 13 birthdays next year, I think he will get the full meal deal…..not halfsies. I set my camera on auto and tried to capture him snarfing each one.

This morning we gave the ‘kids’ each a prime rib bone to enjoy on Easter Sunday…..better than chocolate eggs any day!!!
I subscribe to a blog about Golden Retrievers called The Daily Golden. The owner of the blog asked people to submit pictures of their goldens to use in future blog posts. Today she used a picture of my handsome boy in an article about the relationship between early spay/neutering and cancer. Wally will be 12 years old in a few weeks and he is still in intact. We are blessed to have a very healthy, active (fingers and toes crossed that he will stay this way) “senior” dog that doesn’t act his age. He can still do a half marathon with me and he is very disappointed if I go for a run or walk and don’t take him with me. Here is a link to the post with Wally’s picture.
We found this surprise sitting on our front door step. We don’t know who left it there. As you can see by the pictures, Wally liked it more than Tango did. Those of you that know my boy will know exactly what he did with his new friend.

I stumbled across this article written by a dog walker in Ontario. She describes what she has come to know as the Golden personality. Reading it almost brought tears to my eyes. It is a perfect description of my golden boy Wally. I’ve said it many times before…..if he were human he would be my soul mate. My boy will be 12 years old in April and the thought of him going to puppy heaven any time soon is more than I can bare to think about. On a happier note……if you are a Golden lover or just a dog lover…..I think you will enjoy this article “Golden Retrievers and their DNA”.
I came across this link on a wonderful blog dedicated to Golden Retrievers called The Daily Golden.

Yesterday was my birthday and I always get a card from my ‘kids’. This year’s card was extra special. Not only did it have a picture of a beautiful Golden Retriever on the front but it was hand delivered, actually mouth delivered, by an even more beautiful Golden Retriever…..my boy!!!!

Yesterday I posted this picture on facebook and identified my gorgeous boy as my favourite Valentine. Today I am forced to recant this statement and set the record straight. I actually have two favourite Valentines…..Wally and Don.
Last month I had strongly hinted that this Valentine’s Day I wanted to feel special…..you know…..I wanted to be romanced…like in the “olden days” when we were in lust. I have to take my hat off to the skinny guy. He took on the challenge and boy was I surprised. I have to admit I was a little worried when 5pm came and went and I didn’t even have a card yet….but then it started. First he produced a beautiful, long stemmed red rose. That was quickly followed by a beautiful pendant and necklace. Then I was told that I had to hurry up and get ready because a limo was picking us up in 30 minutes. We enjoyed a wonderful 4 course dinner and wine. I feel truly spoiled and loved. Move over Wally there is a new (renewed) love in my life with two legs instead of four!!
