For the first time, Klondike Days (our annual summer exhibition) featured a Makers Exhibition to showcase and celebrate local makers, creators, artists and producers. On a whim, I decided to enter my Bridges of Madison County quilt into the Longarm Quilting category. Unfortunately I was so busy that I completely forgot to go and see the exhibit before it closed. I went this week to pick up my quilt and was shocked to see that it had a first place ribbon on it. The judges comments were “Superb. Small pucker on backing but otherwise excellent”.
I was very fortunate and had the opportunity to take 3 classes at Sparrow Studioz this weekend with the lovely and talented Lisa Calle. These are pictures of a couple of her samples that she brought to share with us.
I enjoyed all of the class but I felt especially inspired by her Divide and Design Class. I was one of the few that managed to finish their project. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out….a few boo boo’s but that is what happens when you are learning new things. I’m a ruler junkie so I added several of Lisa’s amazing rulers to my collection. Here is my finished class project from Divide and Design:
When you see her quilts on her website or in her book they look amazing. But……in person they are absolutely unbelievable. The incredible detail and the way her quilting enhances the piecing is truly inspiring. And to top it all off she is incredible gracious and humble. All that talent in a wonderful lady. If you get the opportunity to take a class with her I highly recommend it.
