Berner Party

Today we had the pleasure of attending the first annual Bernese Mountain Dog party hosted by Coreen and Steve Johnson of Tailspin. They invited all of the families who had dogs from their breedings. There was a bevy of Berners in attendance. We managed to get a picture with 14 of them.

There was only one dog there from Spirit’s litter, her sister Asha.

We also had the pleasure of meeting Tailspin’s newest litter. They are called the Olympic litter because they were born during the Olympics. Each puppy’s registered name will be Olympic themed. They will be six weeks old on Monday.

Snow Day

Spirit, Bentley, Boomer and Hope

On Saturday the gang got together at Patty’s house for a wonderful day of fresh air, great food and even better company. The dogs had a wonderful time running around together and practicing scent detection.

Hope helped me make a snow angel

Spirit got to meet her first cat. She just kept looking back at me with an expression that said “Hey Mom…..look at this thing!”.

A new playmate

Hope, a beautiful English Lab and a former foster puppy, came over to meet Spirit. She really needs another dog to play with. She is too rough with Tilly. She treats her like she is her own personal squeaky toy and believe me Tilly squeaks when Spirit jumps on top of her. Wally is almost 14 so he doesn’t really play all that much any more.

At first Spirit was afraid of Hope as she did laps around the back yard and did fly-by’s really close. Over time she relaxed a bit and they had a little fun together.

I also got some cute video of the girls in our family room and even Wally played a little.

Ten Weeks Old

This is Spirit’s third day with us and she is settling in just wonderfully. I’ve always dreaded getting a puppy in the winter because potty training can be a nightmare when they don’t want to go out in the cold. Well this doesn’t seem to be an issue for Spirit. She loves the snow and never seems to be cold. I’m freezing but she is sprawled out on her belly luxuriating in all the fluffy white stuff.

I’ve been playing around with the GoPro and the head mount. I don’t seem to be able to get the angle adjusted properly so that I can keep her in frame most of the time. Frustrated, I gave up and used my old Canon Powershot and got this short video of her playing in the snow.
